The now famous address was captured for the ages when Cadet 1st Captain James Ellis had the foresight to record the speech, knowing that there was no actual transcript in existence. The familiar words were spoken by General Douglas MacArthur to the Corps of Cadets in Washington Hall at the Military Academy at West Point, NY on during his acceptance speech for the Sylvanus Thayer Award.
